A slow WordPress site is usually overweight, not cursed. You measure a URL, you remove the heaviest files and scripts, you turn on the cache the host already gave you. Installing three speed plugins on a broken theme is how people make it slower.
Measure with page speed test. Why speed matters for search: speed and SEO. Hosting type: WordPress hosting explained.
Compress and resize images. Delete plugins you do not use. Keep one cache path. Reduce fonts and sliders. Then consider hosting. Do not chase a 100 score as a business goal.
Measure one URL
Test the homepage and one inner page on a mobile profile. Write down LCP and the largest file. Then change one thing. If you cannot name the file that dominates, you are guessing.
Images
Upload the size you display. Convert to a modern format the site already supports. Lazy-load below the fold. Details: optimize images.
Plugins and the builder
Every plugin can add CSS and JS on every page. Remove the ones you installed “just in case”. A page builder is fine for a few landing pages. It is expensive when it is the whole theme.
| Symptom | First place to look |
|---|---|
| LCP is a huge photo | Hero image size and format |
| Main thread busy | Sliders, chat widgets, unused plugins |
| Slow first byte | Hosting, PHP version, no page cache |
| Layout jumps | Images without width and height. See Core Web Vitals |
Cache and hosting
Use the cache your panel already offers before you add another plugin. Hostinger plans often include a caching layer. Confirm what is on in hPanel so you do not stack two systems. We will not name a trophy plugin.
If PHP is old or the plan is tiny for WooCommerce, move plan after you have cut the fat. Partner hosting: domain and hosting.
Security work can wait one afternoon, but a hacked site is also “slow”: WordPress security.
