When a domain expires, the name stops being yours to use in the ordinary way. Hostinger’s domain life-cycle article says the website shows an error and email services are suspended as soon as it expires. That is the first day, not a polite warning week.

Quick answer

Renew before the date. If you missed it, try grace first (standard renewal when the TLD allows it). If you are in redemption, expect an extra fee. If it is pending deletion, you may have to wait and hope nobody else grabs it.

Domain life stages from active through expiry, grace, redemption and deletion
The clock is set by the TLD and the registrar, not by your hosting invoice.

The usual stages

Expired. The name no longer resolves as a working site. People who type it get a failure. Mail on that domain fails with it.

Grace period. Hostinger says you can often renew at the standard fee. Length depends on the TLD. Some extensions skip grace and go straight to redemption.

Redemption. You pay renewal plus a redemption fee. Hostinger’s legal policy lists amounts that change. Their renew tutorial says a restored domain can take about a day to become active after payment. Recheck both pages on the day you need them.

Pending deletion, then available. Hostinger says once this ends, the name can be registered by anyone. They also describe cases where a name is removed from your account and cannot be renewed there any more.

Stage What you can usually do
Before expiry Renew or turn on auto-renew
Grace Standard renewal, if the TLD has grace
Redemption Renewal plus extra fee, if offered
Pending deletion / released Wait, then maybe buy it like anyone else

Do not confuse the two bills

Hosting can still be paid while the domain is dead. The server has no public name. That split is domain vs hosting. Connecting a working name again: connect a domain. Moving the name in: transfer to Hostinger.

Hostinger says they send renewal emails before expiry. Still turn on auto-renew if this name is the business.
