Shopify order emails not sending is usually a notification toggle, a wrong address on the order, or mail that arrived in spam. It is rarely a theme bug. Customers still treat it as a broken store, especially on the first order.
Settings, Notifications. Open Order confirmation and send a test. Then open a recent order and read the email address the customer entered. Check spam. If you send from your own domain, authenticate that domain in Shopify.
Separate the two mails
- Customer confirmation: the buyer must receive this
- Staff new-order mail: your team must receive this
- Shipping mail: only after a fulfilment is created
If checkout itself is failing before an order exists, there is no email to send. Start with checkout drop-off and payments on hold.
What is not a theme task
Sender authentication and notification copy live in admin. A developer should get involved when a custom checkout or an app replaces the customer email and the order no longer carries an address. That is custom development, then a check on monthly maintenance after any app change.
Send a sample order number and which inbox should have received it.
