Shopify duplicate collection pages happen when the same catalogue is filed under sale, new in, gender, colour and a campaign, and every one of those URLs is left in the menu and the sitemap. Search engines then see many thin pages instead of one collection that deserves to rank.
Pick one primary collection for each way customers shop. Write a real intro only on those. Remove the extras from navigation. Redirect abandoned campaign URLs to the primary collection if they already have links.
A simple cleanup
- List collections that share most of the same products
- Keep the URL that matches the words customers use
- Point menus, ads and internal links at that URL
- Leave utility collections unpublished if they exist only for a discount rule
This sits next to the Shopify SEO checklist and search that returns no products. If people cannot name the collection, the menu is a design problem. See the store design checklist.
What we change in the theme
Navigation, collection templates and internal links are part of store design and development. We do not promise a ranking. We remove the URLs that compete with the page you actually want found.
Send the store and the collections you want customers to use.
