WordPress and Shopify get treated as rivals. They are different tools. WordPress publishes pages and posts on hosting you provide. Shopify runs a hosted storefront and checkout. WooCommerce sits in the middle: a shop on WordPress, with the server still yours.

NP SoftTech’s main service is Shopify store development. We also build business websites. This comparison is the fork we use on first calls, not a war between logos.

Quick answer

Sell products with a serious checkout? Start with Shopify unless you already have a reason to stay on WooCommerce. Need a company site, blog or brochure? WordPress or a custom site on hosting. Need both? Two properties, or a shop plus a simple marketing site.

WordPress site on hosting compared with a Shopify hosted store
One stack you host. One stack Shopify hosts. WooCommerce is the hybrid.
WordPress Shopify
What it is Open-source CMS you install Hosted commerce platform
Hosting You buy it (for example Hostinger) Included for the shop
Ecommerce WooCommerce or another plugin Built in
Checkout Plugin and gateway setup Shopify checkout
Updates Core, theme, plugins Shopify updates the platform
Best default Content and company sites Product shops

Cost is not “WordPress is free”

WordPress.org is free software. You still pay for a domain, hosting, a theme if you buy one, and plugin licences. Someone must apply updates. Shopify’s India plan prices are on Shopify pricing in India. Build cost is on store cost and website cost.

In India, Shopify shops still use gateways such as Razorpay, Cashfree or PhonePe. WooCommerce also needs a gateway. The difference is who owns checkout reliability.

When WooCommerce is the honest third option

You already live in WordPress and sell a small catalogue. You have a developer who will patch it. You need content and commerce on one install badly enough to accept plugin risk. Those are reasons. “Shopify is expensive so I will take the free plugin” is not a full reason until you count security and checkout time.

Hosting sits on the WordPress side

If you pick WordPress, pick hosting that matches it. NP SoftTech is an official Hostinger partner. See Hostinger vs Shopify so you do not buy a Hostinger plan expecting a Shopify admin.

If you pick Shopify and later leave WordPress, use an SEO-safe migration. URLs and redirects are the work, not a CSV dump alone.
