These are mistakes we see on live product pages. None of them require a new brand film. Several of them require uninstalling something. If traffic arrives and nothing sells, start here, then read traffic but no sales.
Fix the first screen, variant-to-price sync, shipping near buy, and one clear button. Then remove overlapping apps. Design polish comes after a shopper can complete those steps on a phone.
Before and after of a fictional product first screen: cluttered vs clear title, price, options and CTA. Label as an example. ALT: Example Shopify product first screen before and after cleanup.
The 15 mistakes
| # | Mistake | Why it hurts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | SKU-style title | Shopper and search cannot name the item |
| 2 | Price appears late or jumps on variant change | Trust dies in one tap |
| 3 | Options that do not update the photo | People buy the wrong colour or leave |
| 4 | Sold-out variant still looks buyable | Checkout becomes a fight |
| 5 | No size or fit information | Fashion and jewellery stall here |
| 6 | Shipping only in the footer | COD and prepaid shoppers need a line now |
| 7 | Returns written as legal fog | New brands need a plain sentence |
| 8 | Huge hero video or uncompressed gallery | The page never becomes usable |
| 9 | Description is generic AI filler | No fact to decide on |
| 10 | Reviews app plus stars in the theme plus a third widget | Shift, slowness, duplicate blocks |
| 11 | Popup on load covering add to cart | First tap is dismiss, not buy |
| 12 | Sticky bar plus chat plus urgency timer | The thumb has nowhere to go |
| 13 | Related products that are unrelated | Looks careless, wastes the scroll |
| 14 | Hidden payment methods | UPI or COD shoppers bounce before checkout |
| 15 | Two add-to-cart buttons that do different things | Theme button vs app button vs buy-now |
What to fix this week
Pick your top five products by traffic. Walk each one on a phone against rows 1 to 8. That is usually enough to see a pattern. SEO-specific product work is in product page SEO. Speed work is in the speed checklist.
Jewellery stores have extra trust needs (weight, making charges, hallmarks). We keep a separate jewellery PDP trust note if that is your catalogue.
NP SoftTech does theme work and conversion fixes on product pages. Send two product URLs, one that sells and one that does not.
