Sessions going up and orders staying flat is a common Shopify complaint. The store is not “dead”. People arrived. They did not finish. That is a different job from getting more traffic.

This page is diagnosis. Urgent on-page fixes live in the CRO checklist. Product-page errors are listed in 15 product page mistakes.

Quick answer

Open your top landing product on a phone. If a new shopper cannot see what it is, what it costs, which option to pick and when it arrives, you do not have a traffic problem. Then test checkout and the gateway. Then look at whether ads promised a different product.

Path from Shopify traffic to a sale with drop-off points marked
Find the step that dies. Do not add another popup on the homepage first.
Graphic needed

Ad or search → landing page → product → cart → checkout → paid. Mark the usual drop. ALT: Funnel from traffic to paid Shopify order with drop-off points.

The landing page is not the product they wanted

Paid traffic often hits a collection or a blog. The first product they tap does not match the ad. Organic traffic can do the same if the title ranked for a use you do not sell. Read the query and the page together. If they do not match, fix the page or the campaign, not the logo.

The product page does not close the loop

Price hidden below a fold of sliders. Variants that do not update the photo. No size information. Delivery written as “shipping policy” in the footer only. Reviews buried. These are not branding problems. A shopper on a phone will leave.

Hypothetical example (not a client): an ad says “silver daily wear rings under Rs.2,000”. The landing product is a styled set with no single-ring price until variant pick. Sessions will look healthy. Orders will not.

Trust and speed

New brands need return rules, a real address or at least a clear company name, and payment marks that match how India actually pays. Linking Razorpay, Cashfree or PhonePe does not help if the pay page errors.

If the first image takes too long, some visitors never see the offer. Measure with the speed checklist. Do not start a redesign to fix a 4MB hero.

What you see Look at first
High sessions, almost no add to cart First screen of the landing product
Adds to cart, few checkouts Shipping surprise, variant errors, cart apps
Checkouts, few paid orders Gateway, COD rules, payment methods, required fields
Paid traffic only, organic is fine Ad-to-page match
Every page bounces fast Speed and accidental password or country redirect

Checkout is a store problem, not a “mindset” problem

Place a real test order on mobile. Use the same payment method customers use. If UPI fails, you will not see it in a homepage heatmap. Shopify’s abandoned checkouts tell you whether people started paying.

Extra checkout fields, a surprise coupon trap, or three upsell popups can stall a ready buyer. Remove experiments until a clean order works.

If the theme is the wall, that is conversion work or a redesign after you know which template failed.
